The Game

crypt [A]

“An artfully (…) soldered and highly complexly programmed machine. (…) One could draw comparisons to theater productions in general whose stages are huge machines, to visual artists who weld rattling devices to art, or to computer games but all that is left far behind by CRYPT [A] beyond a certain point. CRYPT [A] is something better than all that: it is a playground for adults.”
Jan Fischer, in globe-m magazin

machina eX: CRYPT [A] is a project between the disciplines: Visual Art, Theater and Computer Game.

Imagine an installation whose active part you have to become to open it up. Which tells a story that mixes with your own perception and  actions. In which you can touch, try out and change everything. machina eX constructs interactive situations – computer games in real life graphics.

In its program “support” the “hub:kunst.diskurs” deals with the opportunity to discuss culture through artistic practice: The Art Association presents in this year “support acts”, opening acts for other cultural organizers. machina eX was suggested by the HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin and is the second project in this series.

The assignment was to nominate artists who enhance, deepen or question the work of machina eX by means of the visual art. machina eX chose artists from amongst their own who transferred the currently narrated stories into a participatory installation: as a prequel or a big theater production at the Hebbel am Ufer in 2012.

A machina installation for 12 to 15 players – duration of ca. 60-80 minutes.

Vernissage on August 31st 2011, in the context of the “support” exhibition series in Hannover. A cooperation with the Art Association “hub:kunst.diskurs”. Funded by the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur as well as the EISFABRIK e.V. (the EISFABRIK is institutionally funded by the Kulturbüro Hannover). In cooperation with the Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin.
