We are looking for teachers and theater educators for practical testing, feedback, and exchange

Game Theater Toolkit – Teachers and theater educators wanted for practical testing

The project

For over 15 years, machina eX has been developing participatory game theater. In our productions, we combine game design, coding, and interactive spaces with the classic tools of illusion theater. This results in playable theater pieces in which the audience itself becomes active—for example, by solving puzzles, making decisions, or interacting with the environment. In doing so, we continuously experiment with new formats and technologies. In recent years, we have created multimedia board games for home use, playable installations with audio plays, theater games in urban spaces and classrooms, and specially developed software for game theater projects.

More than 30 productions have resulted in extensive practical experience. We are now preparing these so that teachers, theater educators, and other multipliers can use them in lessons and workshops. Our materials teach the basics of game theater—such as game mechanics, branching dramaturgy, and interactive props—and provide guidance on how to create your own playable theater scenes or plays.

To this end, we are developing a freely accessible website with exercises, methods, and expert input.

What to expect

As part of the group, you can:

  • Learn about and test methods and exercises
  • Try them out in class or in workshops
  • Provide feedback on comprehensibility and applicability
  • Exchange ideas with other teachers and theater educators

With your support, we will create a toolkit that is developed with practical application in mind and can later be used independently in teaching.

  • Work with groups or classes
  • Be interested in new methods for teaching theater
  • Wanting to exchange ideas and experiment together

No prior technical knowledge is required.
